Zela Chin, Hong Kong
Candidate for at-large board member
Dear members,
I’ve been an AAJA member for more than ten years. In fact, I got my first job at the AAJA convention in San Diego, where I met a CNN recruiter. I joined the AAJA chapter in Atlanta, and moved to Hong Kong with CNN in 2005.
At the time, AAJA Asia was very nascent but we had fun get-togethers with chapter founders: Ken Moritsugu, Allen Cheng, and Ying Chan. As our chapter has grown over the years, I’ve helped organized activities, including the first AAJA journalism conference in HK, and recently a panel discussion on local media coverage of HK’s Umbrella Movement.
My AAJA mentors and friends have helped me in pivotal moments in my career. Now I feel that it’s time to give back and help my fellow members and colleagues. Just a couple of programs I would be interested in organizing for working journalists: workshops on creating your own website/resume reel/clip portfolio, and courses on updating video/photography/social media skills.
As an alum of the University of Hong Kong’s Master’s of Journalism program and the Senior Reporter & Producer for Hong Kong’s flagship broadcaster, TVB, I would also represent the interests and concerns of Asia’s local media journalists.
Thank you for listening and I hope to get your vote for At-Large Board Member!
