To gear up for AAJA’s 22nd annual conference in Detroit, the Asia chapter invites you to a weekend meetup in Seoul.
Friday, Aug. 5
6:30-8:30 pm — Networking event at the Seoul Foreign Correspondents Club bar
Local and visiting AAJA members will speak about the chapter’s recent activities and the upcoming national convention in Detroit, Michigan on Aug. 10. Starting 7 pm, AP Seoul bureau chief Jean Lee will present a slideshow about reporting from Pyongyang, North Korea.
Saturday, Aug 6
Following a catered lunch, we will have a panel discussion about how the decades-old conflict between the Koreas has affected Internet freedom in South Korea and how the North is using social media as an outreach tool for the world’s most closed-off society, as well as China’s role considering its status as North Korea’s chief ally.
Noon – 1 pm — Lunch
1-2:30 pm — Panel discussion with Martyn Williams (Tokyo, IDG), Kaiser Kuo (Beijing, Baidu), Myung Seung-eun (Seoul, TNM). MC: Steve Herman (Seoul, VOA)
Mixer to follow.
Cost: Catered lunch and two drinks at the mixer will be 30,000 won (about US$30)

Sunday, Aug 7
11 am — Brunch at Tango du Chat. 653-95 Hannam-dong, Yongsan-Gu.
Directions: Walking distance from Itaewon, down the hill at the Cheil Bldg. It’s before the Thai Embassy and across the street from the Hannam Catholic Church.
Cost: 10,000 won plus cost of coffee/tea.
