AAJA-Asia Board Members 2026-2027

AAJA-Asia board members are selected through a chapter-wide nomination and voting process. Board members serve a two-year term. 

Zela Chin, President

Zela Chin is the supervising producer for the weekly, prime-time documentary program Pearl Magazine on TVB, the flagship broadcaster in Hong Kong. Prior to joining Pearl Magazine, she was a reporter with TVB’s business feature programs, Money Matters and Money Magazine. She also spearheads production of The Shaw Prize, a Hong Kong based award for international scientific achievement. TVB shows reach 2.3 million households in Hong Kong, and over 300 million households worldwide. Hailing from the U.S., Zela started her career at CNN headquarters in Atlanta, and later joined CNN in Hong Kong to produce Talk Asia. Highlights include interviews with Alibaba CEO Jack Ma, scientist Stephen Hawking and opera singer Luciano Pavarotti. She is also a journalist governor of the Foreign Correspondents’ Club, Hong Kong.

Genster Brolley, Executive Vice President

Bernice Sibucao, Secretary

Bernice Sibucao is the Senior Manager and Deputy Head of GMA Integrated News’ Digital Strategy and Innovation Lab. Under her leadership, her team has successfully positioned GMA Network—the largest news organization in the Philippines—as a prominent player online. They have launched innovative programs and products that have garnered billions of views and won international awards. Bernice was a fellow in the Asian American Journalists Association’s 25th Executive Leadership Program and was the only Filipino selected for The Poynter Institute’s 2022 Leadership Academy for Women in Media. She currently serves as the Secretary of the Asian American Journalists Association-Asia and is a fellow in the London School of Economics and Political Science’s JournalismAI program.

Jin Ding, Treasurer & National Advisory Board Representative

Jin Ding (she/they) is the Chief Executive Officer of Initium Media 端傳媒, an independent news outlet serving global Chinese-speaking communities. Before joining Initium, Jin spent a decade in U.S. nonprofit news, holding roles such as Chief of Staff and Operations at the Center for Public Integrity, News Partnership Manager at the Associated Press, Program Manager at the International Women’s Media Foundation, and Inclusion and Communications Manager at the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting. Jin began her career as a local sports reporter in China. They are a graduate of the Executive Program in News Innovation and Leadership at CUNY’s Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism and Poynter’s Leadership Academy for Women in Media.

Holly Chik, co-Vice President, Hong Kong 

Holly Chik is a reporter covering China for the South China Morning Post in Hong Kong. She served on the AAJA-Asia board as the student representative in 2019.

Gavin Huang, co-Vice President, Hong Kong 

Gavin Huang is the Asia companies and markets news editor at the Financial Times. Previously, he was the founding editor of Goldthread, a culture publication by the South China Morning Post, and a business editor at the Korea JoongAng Daily, the partner paper of The New York Times in Seoul. His involvement with AAJA dates back to 2009, when he participated in JCamp as a high school senior. He graduated from Dartmouth College with a degree in political science and film studies. 

Prabesh Subedi, co-Vice President, Nepal

is a freelance journalist and policy analyst based in Kathmandu, Nepal. He is the Founder of the Digital Media Foundation and brings over two decades of experience in print, broadcast, and online journalism. His expertise spans digital technologies, telecommunications, and Nepal’s contemporary political and socio-economic affairs. 

Rajneesh Bhandari, co-Vice President, Nepal

Rajneesh Bhandari is the founder and chief editor of the Nepal Investigative Multimedia Journalism Network. He oversees investigations and training. Rajneesh is an award-winning and experienced multimedia journalist, investigative reporter, filmmaker, and educator based in Nepal with 20 years of experience. His multimedia work on different issues have appeared in The New York Times, National Geographic, OCCRP, Aljazeera, AJ+, BBC Reel, Contrast VR, NPR, and other outlets. Prior to this, he was the executive director, program director, and investigations editor at the Media Foundation. He led the “Strengthening the capacity of Nepali Journalists in Investigative Reporting” (SCNJIR) program that trained and edited the work of 60 journalists on social justice issues. He has worked as the Multimedia Editor for the European Journalism Center-supported news website and data/multimedia editor for Journalists for Transparency’s investigative reporting website J4T.org which is supported by Transparency International.

Carl Javier, co-Vice President, Philippines

Carl Javier started writing for broadsheets and magazine in the Philippines over 25 years ago. In the time since, he has worked in literature, comics, publishing, academe, nonprofits and social enterprise, film and television, and entrepreneurship. Alongside his work as a media consultant and freelance writer, he is the Executive Director of Data and AI Ethics, where he works to advance Responsible AI. He teaches Creative Writing at the Fine Arts Deparment of the Ateneo de Manila University. 

Regina Hing, At-Large Board member & co-Vice President, Philippines

Regina Hing (Lay) is concurrently an Anchor and Business News Editor at One News, the cable news arm of Cignal, the Philippines’ leading cable channel. She co-hosts and supervises the channel’s flagship primetime program, The Big Story. Prior to that, Regina served as Anchor and Head of News for Bloomberg TV Philippines, running a team of more than two dozen and overseeing the daily editorial agenda for the network. On the side, she is a consultant for IFC in the Philippines, working on projects around climate change, climate finance, energy transition, and financial inclusion. She holds a Masters in Business and Economic Reporting from New York University.

Shreyas Reddy, Vice President, Seoul  

Shreyas Reddy serves as Seoul Correspondent at NK News, a specialist news and analysis website focusing on North Korea, and its South Korea-centric partner site Korea Pro. He previously worked as a journalism researcher at BBC Monitoring in Delhi, where his work focused on news and key people and organizations from the Korean Peninsula, Japan, Southeast Asia and the Pacific.

Mike Raomanachai, co-Vice President, Singapore and Southeast Asia

Mike Raomanachai is a media trainer and news specialist at Cofact Thailand and Google. He has trained journalists and newsrooms across Thailand and Southeast Asia in digital tools, digital safety and verification since 2019. Mike was a business and technology news anchor at Voice TV Thailand between 2012-2017. He has more than 10 years of experience in technology, business, and lifestyle news.

Xie Yihui, co-Vice President, Singapore and Southeast Asia

Yihui Xie is a reporter at Bloomberg News covering the metals market and the mining industry. She’s been serving on the AAJA board since 2024.

Nicholas Takahashi, co-Vice-President, Tokyo

Nicholas Takahashi covers global companies for Bloomberg. Previously he covered climate change for the Seattle Times, and general news at the Japan Times. He grew up in Oregon and studied journalism in Seattle, Washington. His interests include photography, animals, coffee and spending time with friends.

Anjali Kapoor, At-Large board member

Anjali Kapoor is a global executive leader focused on building digital business strategies and marketing product solutions around growth, audience, revenue, and brand engagement at scale. She has more than 18+ years of experience developing digital transformation and go-to-market strategies for large global technology organizations like Meta, Yahoo, and Microsoft and media companies like Bloomberg Media and The Globe and Mail. She has worked with C-Suite executives on organizational change management and cross-collaboration across the evolving technology landscape of video, mobile, social, VR/AR, and AI. She is currently the Principal at Hot Laundry Digital, consulting, coaching, and training around digital business strategy in the region and globally. Her areas of expertise include brand and content strategy development, commercial partnerships, and business development for new products or categories. Anjali is also a dynamic speaker on digital transformation and leadership and is a DEI advocate for women media leaders in the industry. Joe Pan, National Advisory Board Representative

Joe is a multidisciplinary journalist with a focus on covering blockchain and AI technology at the intersection of climate change, finance and regulation. Joe teaches Asia’s only accredited Master of Journalism class on “Covering Cryptocurrency and Blockchain” at Hong Kong Baptist University. He has been a board member of the Foreign Correspondents’ Club, Hong Kong, and organized the young journalists’ training series and other ongoing club talks and programs featuring high-profile speakers and journalists from around the world. Joe has held leadership positions at major news organizations including the LA Times, California News Group and at local news weeklies. His executive experience also spans corporate development, strategic communications, and investor relations, with leadership roles at global consultancies and tech startups. 

Lok Bing Hong, Student Representative

Lok Bing Hong is a penultimate communications student from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. Still figuring out his way in the world of journalism, he hopes to foray into business journalism in the near future. Ever hungry for the next adventure, he’s had stints in The Straits Times as well as The New Paper, and is a avid writer for NTU-based student news site Soapbox. Currently, he’s an editorial writer for lifestyle paper 88Bamboo, as well as co-founder/editorial head for Fullout!Sg, a new multimedia site covering the street dance scene in Singapore. His interests include cooking, bartending, photography, dance and spending eye-watering amounts of money on his whisky collection.

Chloe Chan, Student Representative

Chloe Chan is a final-year student at the National University of Singapore, majoring in Sociology, Political Science, and minoring in Religious Studies. She’s currently spending her days thinking about AI safety as an intern at ByteDance. While most of her writing began in academic essays, journalism has always been the dream (thank you Rory Gilmore!). She has experienced the pace of a busy newsroom at Channel News Asia and loved every bit of it. Chloe likes to think she is better suited to chasing stories out in the wild than sitting in an office cubicle, and hopes to spend her time exploring new places, meeting people, and telling stories that matter.
