Ad Age is looking for a new Asia Editor, based in mainland China. We’re interested in candidates currently in China as well as those with China experience willing to relocate. The most important part of the job is covering China, by breaking news and writing insightful stories on marketing, media and advertising in the country. As the world’s second-largest economy and fourth-biggest advertising market, China is both a challenge and an opportunity for our readers who need to understand this fast-changing market and look to AdAge.com and the weekly Advertising Age magazine for relevant, in-depth reporting and insight.
Our definition of the marketing and advertising industry is a broad one—you’ll be writing about pop culture, technology and entertainment, as well as consumer behavior. The ideal candidate will need to be able to spot relevant case studies and lessons for marketers, have a talent for cultivating contacts and sources, and enjoy brainstorming ideas and projects for Asia.
The Asia Editor will also make occasional reporting trips to other major markets in Asia. We’re looking for a self-starter with strong reporting experience, a deep interest in China and the ability to work independently. Must be a native speaker of English. Fluency—or close to it—in Mandarin is a huge plus.
