Reuters’ Gina Chua and LA Times owner Patrick Soon-Shiong to speak at N3Con21

AAJA-Asia is proud to announce the 11th edition of the New.Now.Next Media Conference (N3Con) – taking place online on August 2-8, 2021 – will feature two prominent figures of the Asian American news community as keynote speakers: Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong and pioneering journalist Gina Chua of Reuters.

Dr. Soon-Shiong is owner and Executive Chairman of California Times, publisher of the Los Angeles Times and The San Diego Union-Tribune. At this keynote session at N3Con 2021, he will discuss his vision for redefining the modern American newspaper, and the role that news media can play for advancing diversity and inclusion in the US. 

Soon-Shiong. who is also a physician, surgeon, scientist, inventor and philanthropist, has pioneered novel therapies for both diabetes and cancer. He is currently focused on the development of a vaccine to address the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a keynote fireside chat, Gina Chua – Reuters Executive Editor and the most senior transgender journalist in the U.S. – will discuss how we should rethink and restructure journalism and newsroom processes in the post Covid-19 era. Chua will also discuss the news media responsibility to ensure that “the stories we tell are truly representative.”

A longtime newsroom manager with a career spanning three decades and five countries, Chua is responsible at Reuters with spearheading tech initiatives that will deliver new methods of storytelling and help the company find new audiences. She was previously Editor-in-Chief of the South China Morning Post and spent 16 years at The Wall Street Journal in Manila, Hanoi, Hong Kong and New York.
